We’ve recently been repairing the kitchen at home and so on the 2nd day of taking the cabinets out, we discovered a little mine field behind our sink. The water pipe had been quietly leaking for an unknown period of time and had fully ruined the floor, cabinet, etc. all-around it. This little problem will definitely cost us a pretty penny since we will have to renovate a lot more than we thought so. You always have to be aware of water leaks, be sure you look into pipe joints and connections frequently. Especially in areas you don’t get to see usually, the basement would be one of these. Look for water indications in the surrounding parts of the water pipes, mold, moisture, decaying drywall, etc. Water is without a doubt a tricky thing, be sure that whenever you make new connection you do it right to start with, because even a little leak might cause plenty of headaches and cash.
Keep watch over your foundation, make sure there are no fractures anyplace, and in case there are any seal them. Another place to be careful of water damage and mold is windows, if your windows haven’t undergone an update make sure they are sealed properly and they don’t let any water in.
I now know much more about water damage and mold than I knew before, something which will come in useful in the future. The experience was surely one to be learned, I just wish we had detected it sooner and averted all the foundation damage.
